Orphan Care

Our Orphan Care initiative reaches orphaned and vulnerable children across Nigeria, providing safe housing, nutritious meals, quality education, healthcare, and the emotional support they need to thrive. We work where extended family networks have been stretched past breaking point by bereavement, displacement, and economic hardship.

Why this work matters

A child who loses one or both parents rarely loses only a parent. Schooling is interrupted because fees and uniforms are no longer affordable. Medical care is delayed until an illness becomes an emergency. Children are absorbed into households that love them but cannot stretch to feed them. Without intervention, the loss compounds year after year, and a child's future narrows to whatever this month can pay for.

We believe the answer is not to remove children from their communities, but to strengthen the people already caring for them.

How the programme works

We partner with local caregivers, community leaders, and churches to create family-like environments where every child feels valued and loved. Placement with kin or a trusted community household comes first; institutional care is a last resort, not a default.

Care and daily needs

Safe housing, regular nutritious meals, clothing, and bedding are established first, because a child cannot learn or heal while hungry or unsafe.

Education

We cover school fees, uniforms, books, and materials, and we follow attendance and progress rather than simply paying and hoping. Where a child has fallen behind after a period out of school, catch-up support comes before promotion to the next class.

Health

Children receive routine health checks and treatment when they are ill, so that ordinary conditions are handled early instead of becoming crises.

Emotional support

Bereavement, displacement, and instability leave marks that food and fees do not address. Caregivers are supported in recognising distress, and children are given consistent adults who know them by name.

Every donation designated to Orphan Care is tracked against this initiative and the projects beneath it.
