Women Empowerment Programs

Our Women Empowerment Programs operate across both Nigeria and the United States, from entrepreneurship workshops and cooperative development to leadership and skills training. We believe that when women thrive, families and communities flourish — and we design each programme around what women in that specific place tell us they need.

Why this work matters

The barriers differ by context, which is why a single programme design would fail in one country or the other.

In Nigeria, women running small enterprises are frequently constrained less by ambition or skill than by access to capital, to markets beyond the immediate community, and to the collective bargaining power that comes with organising.

In the United States, our work centres on immigrant and diaspora women in Western New York, where the obstacles look different: credentials earned abroad that are not recognised here, professional networks that must be rebuilt from nothing, and navigating unfamiliar institutions while supporting a household.

How the programme works

Enterprise and cooperative development

We support women to form cooperatives and trading groups. Organising collectively improves purchasing power, opens markets that are closed to individual traders, and creates a structure through which training and finance can reach many women at once.

Skills and business training

Practical training in a trade is paired with the business skills that determine whether it becomes a livelihood: pricing, margins, record-keeping, and managing stock and cash.

Access to capital

Micro-grants and links to microfinance address the constraint that training alone cannot solve.

Leadership and integration

In the United States, programming focuses on leadership development, professional networks, and community integration for immigrant and diaspora women building a life in a new country.

Mentorship

Participants are connected with mentors, including volunteers from the diaspora who have travelled a similar road and can shorten it for someone else.
